Benign vulvovaginal cysts: A systemic review study

  Abstract :

Differential diagnosis of cysts of vagina includes cystocele, rectocele, tumors, Vaginitis emphysematosum, and hematocolpos due to hymenal atresia Vaginitis emphysematosum is an uncommon condition seen in pregnant or women in 2nd to 4th decades as group of gas-filled psuedocysts on the vaginal wall ,in a pattern similar to pneumatosis of the intestines or bladder. This may be associated immunosuppression, trichomoniasis or haemophilus vaginalis infection Histological examination showed the cysts contained pink hyalin-like material, foreign body-type giant cells in the cyst's wall, with chronic inflammatory cells. The gas-filled cysts are identified with CT imaging.
